CANADA — October 4, 2026 — Canadian AI™ today announced the launch of Canadian AI Cyber™, a cybersecurity initiative focused on sovereign cybersecurity, AI security and safety, post-quantum security, and resilient digital infrastructure for Canadian organizations operating in increasingly interconnected and high-consequence technology environments.

Canadian AI Cyber™ is being developed around the view that cybersecurity architecture is entering a new phase. Artificial intelligence is becoming embedded in enterprise workflows, cloud and software supply chains continue to concentrate operational dependencies, cryptographic systems face a long-term transition toward post-quantum standards, and critical infrastructure increasingly depends on digital control planes that connect information technology, operational systems, identity and external services.

The initiative will focus on research, architecture, advisory and technology development across areas where these changes converge. Its operating perspective is that security should be designed as a connected system of identity, data protection, cryptography, software assurance, telemetry, AI controls and recovery rather than as a collection of isolated security products.

Sovereign cybersecurity as an operating capability

A central focus of Canadian AI Cyber™ will be sovereign cybersecurity. The initiative defines sovereignty as the ability of an organization to understand and govern the administrative authority, data flows, cryptographic custody, technology dependencies and recovery mechanisms that determine control over critical digital systems.

This approach goes beyond infrastructure location. A system may be hosted domestically while still depending on external privileged administrators, cryptographic services, software-update paths, identity systems or recovery mechanisms. Canadian AI Cyber™ will research and develop architectures that make those dependencies visible and help organizations preserve practical control under normal and degraded conditions.

AI security and safety

As AI systems move from analysis and content generation toward retrieval, tool use and increasingly agentic execution, cybersecurity programs must govern not only models and data but also machine identities, permissions, secrets, tools and actions. Canadian AI Cyber™ will focus on secure AI architecture that connects established cybersecurity disciplines with controls for model integrity, retrieval systems, agent authorization and runtime assurance.

The initiative’s research will emphasize identifiable AI agents, bounded privileges, external policy enforcement, protected instruction and knowledge layers, continuous telemetry, incident containment and evidence sufficient to reconstruct machine-generated actions.

Post-quantum security and cryptographic agility

Canadian AI Cyber™ will also develop research and advisory capabilities around post-quantum security. The transition to post-quantum cryptography is expected to require years of inventory, testing, supplier coordination and controlled migration because public-key cryptography is embedded across networks, identity, signing systems, software distribution, devices and enterprise applications.

The initiative will focus on cryptographic discovery, confidentiality-horizon analysis, crypto-agility architecture, supplier readiness, migration sequencing and governance. The objective is to help organizations create a repeatable ability to change cryptographic mechanisms without destabilizing the systems that depend on them.

Critical infrastructure and cyber resilience

For critical infrastructure and other high-consequence environments, Canadian AI Cyber™ will emphasize cyber safety and operational resilience. These environments require security models that account for the possibility that digital incidents may affect physical operations, essential services, safety or economic continuity.

Research will examine IT and operational-technology dependency mapping, remote access, privileged identity, segmentation, configuration assurance, safe degraded operations, recovery architecture and the interaction between AI-enabled automation and operational control.

Research program

Canadian AI Cyber™ is launching with a research program covering four initial themes: sovereign cybersecurity for Canada; post-quantum migration; security architecture for AI models and agents; and cyber safety for critical infrastructure. The research is intended to translate emerging technical and policy developments into architecture-level guidance for enterprise and institutional decision-makers.

The initiative will continue to expand this research across cryptographic infrastructure, secure AI, cyber resilience, software supply-chain assurance, digital sovereignty and sector-specific security architecture.

Working with Canadian organizations

Canadian AI Cyber™ will support engagements that begin with an organization’s operating problem rather than a predetermined security product. Potential starting points include cybersecurity architecture reviews, AI security assessments, post-quantum readiness programs, sovereign-control assessments and resilience or recovery design.

The initiative is intended to serve organizations across financial services, critical infrastructure, healthcare, industrial and energy environments, defence and aerospace, technology and AI, and the public sector, subject to applicable procurement, security, regulatory and contracting requirements.
